Welcome!
I'm Diana, the founder of our Trauma Talk Blog and Podcast.
I have dedicated my life and my work to understanding trauma, to supporting those who have struggled with its often debilitating effects and to helping everyone – including myself find a way to make peace with our past, to move forward by making meaning out of even our most traumatic experiences.
Let me introduce my good friend, Jan, our dedicated business partner, writer, and editor
Let me introduce my good friend, Jan, our dedicated business partner, writer, and editor
We have been friends for 25 years. We have worked together professionally in business, and we have worked together as volunteers, in our role as nationally certified mental health educators. Jan is our business partner, writer, editor and assistant producer.
Together, we created this blog series because we are parents with lived experience, that is,
we are parents who we have seen our loved ones and the people in our
lives suffer from the anguish and havoc that trauma-related experiences can inflict.
So this mission is also our passion.
TYPES OF TRAUMA
TYPES OF TRAUMA
Acute trauma reflects intense distress in the immediate aftermath of a one-time event and the reaction is of short duration. Common examples include a car crash, physical or sexual assault, or the sudden death of a loved one.
EFFECTS OF TRAUMA
EFFECTS OF TRAUMA
Disturbing events activate the amygdala, a structure in the brain responsible for detecting threats. It responds by sending out an alarm to multiple body systems to prepare for defense.

WHY THE PANDEMIC COULD MAKE US HAPPIER PEOPLE
Adapting to The New Normal
Life can be challenging– even in the best of times. A pandemic presents extraordinary challenges, even if we have not been directly affected by the disease and its
social and economic devastation.
But we all have been stretched in so many ways.
